Wildlife Nuisance Control & Exclusion
If you have lived in Michigan for any period of time, then you have known about its wildlife. And, you know what wildlife we’re talking about. This wildlife causes damage to your homes, yards, and business properties. There is a reason people consider animals, such as raccoons, groundhogs, opossums, moles, foxes, and squirrels, nuisance animals. They seem to invade our space constantly.
If you have issues with these animals and want to evict them, ABS Wildlife Removal and Control are here to help.
Michigan Licenses & Laws
If you have a problem with opossums, they are a part of Michigan’s nuisance animal law. Michigan opossum laws allow people with hunting licenses to kill them, as long as their license is valid. There are other nuisance animals that fall within this law. These animals include weasels, red and ground squirrels, pigeons, house sparrows, and starlings.
At ABS Wildlife, we do not follow this practice. We remove animals from your property the humane way.
Must-Have Damage First
While these laws are in place there are guidelines that must be followed. Some animals are allowed to be killed when they are about to damage your property. Other animals such as raccoons, coyotes, woodchucks, groundhogs, and skunks can only be killed after the damage has been done.
So what should you do if you have nuisance wildlife that needs to vacate your property? Do you have to kill an animal to remove it? The answer is ‘no.’ The nuisance animal laws in Michigan allows for the removal of wildlife animals immediately through trapping. When trapping an animal is caught, trapped and released to another environment suitable for them to survive and away from our properties. This is the method ABS Wildlife Removal and Control abides by. It is the safest way to remove an animal without causing damage to the property and hurting the animal. It is the humane way.
There are ways a homeowner or business owner can secure their property from animals entering. For example, installing ridge vents on roofs, deck barriers, or fencing around your property may help prevent nuisance animals from getting in. You may want to look at whether you have food sources lying around your property as well. For example, if you have feed corn for chickens, this could be a food source for nuisance animals.
